WHY I HIKE - Susan & Virginia Gaskin

My sister Virginia and I got involved with the Chapter six years ago after our good friend Lisa was diagnosed with MS in 2009.

The first year we did Bike MS as part of Team Mona Lisa as our way of showing support for her. 

Then we did Walk MS and when the Chapter launched Hike MS and MuckFest MS we kept participating.

Now we are regulars at all these events each year because the experiences are well supported, meaningful and help her to keep a positive attitude.

For us, Hike MS is special because it’s a fun challenge that takes place in a beautiful, relaxed setting.

It also offers the opportunity for family members of all ages – grandparents to kids – to be involved and be part of making a difference. We make a weekend of it and enjoy the friends and family time together.

Today Lisa is doing well and keeping active helps.  Her vision is back and although she still experiences numbness and tingling in her feet, activities such as Hike MS spur her on to stay fit and keep up an active lifestyle. Hike MS is another way for us to raise funds and connect, and also let her to know that she can do it!
